Lamu Safi Group - community project

Lamu Safi Group is a community based organisation, made up of like minded individuals who want to see a cleaner Lamu, for the benefit of all. It is registered with the Department of Social Services. Read our latest newsletter

The Aims & Objectives of the Group are:

  • To raise public awareness regarding sanitation issues in Lamu, and to encourage all members of the community through educational initiatives to play a role in waste management to keep the town clean

  • To identify, plan, harness resources for, and implement projects aimed at improving waste management and conserving the environment in Lamu

We are working together with the community and local officials, through education programmes and implementing practical projects, to achieve a cleaner Lamu, for everyone’s benefit.

Projects to be implemented this year include a pilot project for the house to house collection of waste using donkeys, construction of mobile waste containers for residents to deposit waste, cleanup of unofficial dumping sites by Community and a project to tackle the plastic bags problem in Lamu. We also have an ongoing waste awareness education programme with schools and local groups.
